Mugwort & Lavender Salve

Mugwort & Lavender Salve is inspired by the moon, easing pain & discomfort, supporting re-integration for dream time.

Lavender is circulatory and cooling, known to soothe pain when used topically, aid healing, may increase mucosal repair, and is commonly known to promote relaxation. Lavender has a long history of supporting purification, love, peace, joy, and protection. Mugwort balances coldness & stagnation via their warming, circulatory, and drying properties & supports easing tension via their relaxing effects on the body. Making this helpful for the slowness of winter, when there’s less physical movement. Like Lavender, their warmth & circulatory abilities are oftentimes helpful for relaxing the muscles & alleviating pain (i.e. traditionally menstrual cramps). 

As Mugwort is ruled by the moon, they’re traditionally known to also increase vivid & lucid dreaming. So, be mindful to assess when dreaming can feel too heavy (“work”), especially before a busy day (you may notice tiredness the next day, though it can feel restful for others). Along with Lavender, this salve can be a grounding ritual before sleeping (perhaps stating gratitude & prayers before sleeping, along with any questions for dream time). I also added a bit of Rosemary, to aid in dream recall, cleansing (energy hygiene), and complementary protection.  Mugwort is practiced traditionally in TCM, Japanese, and Korean medicine for cases of rheumatism, via “moxa” moxibustion. This practice offers pain relief (injuries, bruises) and long-term rheumatic pain support (stimulates the flow of qi, dispelling cold & dampness). Working with these herbs can feel supportive to heal old & forgotten wounds. 

** My salves don’t usually contain beeswax, but this one called for beeswax; the theme of the moon (bees working in the unseen realms/dark hives and bringing potent medicine).
